My Writing Process: How I Approach B2B Blogging and Copywriting, In A Nutshell

When I tackle B2B blogging and copywriting, I begin with ideas.

That’s when the longest conversations with a client happen. It takes some brainstorming together!

I have to fully understand your problem and your audience — who could get me on the right track more than the client themselves?

After problems, angles and target audience are filed and sorted, it’s time to talk practical stuff:

I’ll file that all in an audience persona and content brief before I start working on an outline that I will strive to email you in 4 days.

By that point, if you approve the outline, we can get on to the first draft and the collection of the necessary information (read case studies, interview experts, get statistics, testing).

How long this step will take depends on the depth and length of the blog post or copy piece (and a blog post is different from a case study or a report, so time also depends on what type of copy we’re working on).

The first draft of a 1,200-word blog post that doesn’t need interviews usually takes me 4 days to write and format. Add 3 days to include statistics, links, quotes (from research, Twitter, etc.) and images as needed.

The final draft will include your feedback and a minimum of two rounds of editing.
